Getting out and speaking directly with members is an important part of BIAV’s role. These conversations help us better understand what is happening on the ground, the opportunities businesses are pursuing and the challenges where stronger industry advocacy may be needed.

From world-class boatbuilding and repairs to manufacturing, servicing and tourism, BIAV members continue to demonstrate the strength, skill and diversity of Victoria’s marine industry.

Recent visits provided an opportunity to see some impressive projects underway at Mattrix Houseboats, Concept Fibres, Composites Constructions, Inferno Marine, The Houseboat Factory, Anchorage Houseboats and Status Luxury Houseboats. The quality and scale of this work highlight the enormous contribution Victorian boatbuilders and marine trades make not only to the boating experience, but also to skilled employment, regional communities and the state’s economy.

At Lake Eildon, the thriving houseboat sector is supported by a broad network of specialist businesses helping people enjoy one of Victoria’s most spectacular boating destinations. It was fantastic to catch up with the teams at Lake Eildon Outboard, 5 Rivers Eildon, Eild Marina & Houseboat Hire, Maxwell’s Upholstery, Lake Eildon Houseboats, Inferno Marine and Jerusalem Creek Marina & Holiday Park.

Closer to Melbourne, a visit to Dunbier Trailers provided an opportunity to discuss boating promotion, workforce skills, and other important industry priorities with Murph and Renee. The trip also included a stop at Port Phillip Boating Centre, where Mackay Trailers sit beneath an impressive fleet of Victorian-built Haines Hunter boats, a great example of local marine brands working together to support boaters.
