Position Statement

Stony Point Car Ferry Terminal

DATE

May 2018

OUTLINE

  • Searoad Ferries is a member of BIAV and are proposing to locate a new ‘drive on drive off’ ferry terminal at Stony Point to service Phillip Island

  • Searoad attended a recent meeting with Government agencies who are managing the Stony Point area, in order to seek an outcome for the long-term location of the Ferry Berth

  • Searoad reported the outcome was that all agencies agreed that a site adjacent to the proposed upgraded Stony Point Boat Ramp [refer Position statement: State Significant Western Port Boat Ramp] was the best location for a future Ferry Berth due to the proximity to the shore, parking and weather advantages

  • MPMA support the development of a car ferry terminal alongside the proposed upgrade of Stony Point Boat Ramp and have proposed the following:

BIAV POSITION/ACTIONS

  • BIAV acknowledges the merit in the proposed upgrade of Stony Point Boat Ramp to a State Boating Precinct would benefit from leveraging funding alongside any Ferry Terminal business case

  • BIAV acknowledges there are many examples of Car Ferry and Recreational Boat Launching infrastructure co-located (e.g. Kangaroo Island Sea Link ferry)

  • BIAV therefore supports the proposal in principle and will actively advocate for this project at the Ministerial level (Ports and Fishing and Boating)
