Heritage Fleet - Eviction threat in the docklands precinct
One of the many great aspects of the Docklands version of the Melbourne Boat Show is bringing the Heritage fleet to the event, and to the people. Alma Doepel, The Enterprize, and the Wattle are warmly embraced by organisers and the public, once in place at the ferry terminal. This is possible as they are able to be retained and maintained in Victoria Harbour, and brought across for the event. BIAV recognises the current efforts by MMNH and each of the fleets governing entities, including a recent extension to their tenure, despite the reality that time is running out for them. MMHN reports –
In response to alarm at Development Victoria’s (DV) intention to evict the Heritage Fleet restoration project from North Wharf, MMHN convened a forum to enable the Docklands Precinct community and maritime heritage stakeholders to discuss the impact of DV’s action. Development Victoria declined multiple invitations to attend the forum, which provided an opportunity to engage with around 70 stakeholders. As promised, MMHN produced a comprehensive Forum Report, sharing the comments from the event and subsequent feedback. MMHN provided this to DV and all other relevant State Government authorities, as well as the wider heritage community.
