PORT 2055 DEVELOPMENT STRATEGY
Port of Melbourne advises that the 2055 Port Development Strategy sets out a vision for the Port's development through to 2055. It is a very impressive and vital strategy for the state that BIAV recognises. BIAV, however, shares a position with the Port of Williamstown Action Group (PoWAG): it has missed the opportunity to protect Williamstown (Hobsons Bay) and its waterfront.
With more and larger ships, as well as ferries, tugs, and recreational boats, there will be a constant and increasing risk from waves and surges, and a greater need to develop Hobsons Bay into a safe harbour. This has been relayed to the Port and to the state government via the Ports Minister, and it is hoped that it will be incorporated into mid-term planning.
BIAV members with any thoughts or concerns on this matter should direct them to BIAV, which will continue to advocate for stronger protection of Hobson Bay businesses, clubs, marinas, boaters, maritime infrastructure, and the community as a whole.
