PWCs, RULES AND BOATING ZONES

Parks Victoria (PV) has proposed changes to non-boating zones near each of St Kilda and Altona piers. BIAV is aware of the proposed changes, notes that they align with recent changes to the actual piers, do not dramatically extend the zones, and, as a result, does not have any major concerns. Details are available here.

This is not to be confused with the City of Port Phillip (CoPP) recently moving a motion relating to their beaches and PWCs. The motion being to recommend to PV, as the waterway manager, and Safe Transport Victoria (STV), as the regulator, to impose bans within 200m of their shores. Whilst CoPP can recommend this, they cannot impose it.

BIAV maintains its position that there is no safety case that stacks up to support this, the current rules are adequate, the current rules need to be enforced and there are already sufficient no-boating zones for swimmers. This has been relayed to STV and PV, and the status quo is the expected outcome. BIAV will remain watchful.
