RVSA TRAILER STANDARDS - DEADLINE LOOMING

There are now less than five months to run on the 12-month transitional period for the implementation of the Road Vehicle Standards Act (RVSA) 2018 which has now replaced the Motor Vehicle Standards Act 1989.

Members with an interest in the trailer sector – manufacturers, assemblers, importers or those making modifications to trailers are strongly encouraged to ACT NOW to ensure their products are compliant and registered on the Australian Government ROVER portal.

All road vehicles/trailers are required to be registered on the new ROVER portal to confirm compliance with standards and relevant inspections/assessments. There is inevitably some administration involved with this and members are reminded to review the process of establishing a registration as soon as possible. A useful new introduction video on how to complete a vehicle type approval for Low ATM Trailers is available here.

The original BIA guidance note on RVSA is available here.

A detailed website addressing all RVSA topics, including Low ATM Trailers (boat trailers) is available here. BIA thanks the Caravan Industry Association of Australia for use of this resource and other help and support for BIA members on the topic of RVSA trailer standards.

Further information is available on the Department of Infrastructure and Transport website.
