AS1799 SMALL CRAFT DESIGN STANDARD - HAVE YOUR SAY

ABP AS1799.jpg

BIA members with an interest in boat design standards - those manufacturing, importing or modifying boats - will be aware of recent work to revise the Australian Standard for small craft, AS1799. This work has been undertaken by a group of expert marine industry members, led by BIA, to improve the standard based on concerns raised by industry and regulatory agencies as to the suitability of the current 2009 edition.

Standards Australia has now published the draft AS1799 for public comment and BIA members are strongly recommended to review the document and consider whether there is any scope for further improvement. Feedback is required by Standards Australia by 30 April 2021.

The draft AS1799 standard is available to download here.

Feedback may be made directly to Standards Australia here. Please note, you will be required to register with Standards Australia to use the submissions portal. Alternatively, members may provide feedback to BIA here for compilation as part of an industry submission. Please provide feedback by 8 April 2021.

To support members with understanding and applying the new edition of AS1799, BIA will be developing educational material and template calculation/assessment tools. These will be discussed at a member information workshop to be held in coming weeks and as part of an ongoing education program. More details on this will be circulated in due course.
