BEN SCULLIN
After a decade of service to BIAV and members, Ben Scullin is moving on to a new job with our industry colleague organisation, VR Fish.
Apart from a break from 2015-17, when Ben moved to China to study and pursue other opportunities, he has led the Advocacy Manager role at BIAV and at times the areas of membership and education, for over a decade. Ben’s expertise and passion for boating has seen him work across many issues and influence some very important outcomes. Most notably in recent years these include the suite of 2018 state election commitments, thwarting the proposed wake boat ban on the Murray, questioning proposed PWC restrictions on Port Phillip, and much more. Ben has been a valuable asset for BIAV and will certainly be missed.
That said, Ben will continue to work alongside BIAV as he advocates for VR Fish as the Advocacy Manager there. There will no doubt be a great deal of cross-over in the issues confronted, noting that 70% of recreational boats in Victoria are used for fishing! So whether it is the 2018 election commitments, the marine and coastal policy, the upgrade to certain boating facilities, or just protecting boaters/fishers rights, we know Ben will be working toward those, as well as a range of other priorities for fishers.
Ben’s last day will be Thursday 17 September. We wish him all the best for his next opportunity with VR Fish.
