First, the bad news……after a year of presentations, articles, radio and TV interviews, ramp visits and newsletters, Karen Bennett will be winding up BIA Victoria’s pioneering Marine Pests Project.
Now for the good news………due to the success of the Pests project and the excellent feedback and support from the industry and the boating community, BIA has decided to continue its environmental work and has appointed Karen Bennett to work on special projects, regulatory monitoring and policy development. Karen’s environmental science background and communications experience will be an asset to the Association, as all industries are learning to develop and grow in a more environmentally sustainable way.
The Association welcomes Karen to the team

Many members will be disappointed to learn that Kim Mastrowicz, our energetic Events Manager, is leaving the Association to take on new career challenges. Kim has been an excellent asset to the BIA during her time and her preparation, planning and execution of the last three Boat Shows has been praised by exhibitors. Kim will finish up with the BIA in late October to take a break and she will be sadly missed by the staff and boat show participants. I am certain the industry will join me in wishing Kim the very best in her future endeavors.
The Dealer Advisory Panel working on accreditation for boat dealers in Victoria has met for a second time to expedite plans for the introduction of the programme. Accreditation will raise professional standards in the industry and increase the benefits of BIA membership by differentiating accredited members from other dealers. The programme will provide greater confidence to consumers when purchasing boats and send a positive signal to government that the industry is operating responsibly by taking the self-regulatory path where possible.
