Boat Show offers free boat handling course

The 2008 BIA Melbourne Boat Show will again offer a specially developed Boat Handling Course as a free bonus to everybody who buys a boat at the show.

The Boating Industry Association of Victoria (BIA) is offering the course free of charge in an effort to boost safety and enjoyment.

Hundreds of boats of all sizes and types will be on show at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre from 3 to 7 July, and every boat buyer will receive a special voucher entitling them to the free course.

In a minimum two-hour course, boat buyers will cover maintenance and reversing of boat trailers, safe and efficient launching and retrieval, coming alongside, safety gear, weather and sea state, and after-use care of a vessel.

Boating expert Alan Rice runs the one-on-one courses designed to suit each individual’s needs to promote a safer boating environment.

“It gives the owners unbelievable confidence – it’s like a kid on Christmas morning when they see the enjoyment they get out of their new boat,” he said.

The BIA Melbourne Boat Show is organised by the BIA and runs from Thursday 3 July to Monday 7 July at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre. Opening hours are 10am to 9pm daily except Sunday, when the show closes at 7pm, and Monday when the show closes at 8pm.
