BIA Victoria - Jobs for Victorians Program

Jobs for Victorians in the Boating Industry

Acting locally to address skill shortages and helping the unemployed find meaningful work

BIA Project Manager - Christopher KeeganThe Boating Industry Association (BIA) of Victoria is managing 'Jobs for Victorians in the Boating Industry', a major recruitment and training program to fill gaps in industry skills locally instead of by importing skilled workers.

The program is addressing both the short and long term needs of the marine industry and the Australian workforce.

Although importing skilled workers can provide a 'quick fix'; in some industries, even the marine industry, we believe it is in everyone’s interests to recruit and train locally wherever possible.

In the long term, the program will support the continuation of high-quality local training and help to build and preserve the skills base of a strong, growing Australian industry.

'Jobs for Victorians in the Boating Industry' is funded by a State Government Workforce Participation Partnership (WPP) Grant.

BIA's project manager Christopher Keegan (pictured above) is coordinating placement of job seekers (who are currently unemployed or have specific barriers to finding work) into sustainable long-term employment to fill important skill gaps within the Victorian recreational boating industry.

The 'Jobs for Victorians in the Boating Industry' program was started in October 2006 and will continue until the end of March 2008.

Interested employers, training institutions and job seekers are encouraged to contact the Boating Industry Association of Victoria on (03) 8696 5600 or email Christopher.
