Recreational Boat Operator Licensing
The Marine Act states:
Boat licensing has been introduced to improve safety on Victorian waters, by ensuring anyone operating a registered recreational boat has at least demonstrated a basic knowledge of waterway rules and safe boat operation.
Boat operator licensing will also bring Victoria in line with most other Australian states, recognising national and international approaches to boating safety.
Any person who operates a registered recreational boat needs to be licensed. That is, any boat equipped with an engine that is used or is capable of being used for propulsion. "If your boat is registered you will require a licence."
Marine Safety Victoria have engaged VicRoads to be its primary service provider. Licence testing is available at all VicRoads Registration and Licensing Offices.
