Boats and 4x4s join RVs for Melbourne Leisurefest

Tuesday, 19 August 2008

Boats and 4x4s will join RVs and camping for the first time in this year’s Melbourne Leisurefest, which runs from 2 to 5 October at Sandown Racecourse Australia’s biggest RV, camping, boat and 4x4 show will be jam packed with the latest recreational vehicles, vessels and equipment.

Formerly known as the RV & Camping Leisurefest, the event will feature 4x4s, off-road and camping gear, boats, fishing equipment, inflatables, caravans, motor homes, touring information and accessories.

Organisers are claiming a first for an Australian recreational show with both on-road and off-road vehicle tests at the expansive Sandown venue.

There will be test towing for caravans and boats down the Sandown main straight (with expert drivers at the wheel to keep it safe), plus test rides in campers and motor homes.

For the off-road community there will be four-wheel-drive demonstration rides on Sandown’s newly built off-road circuit, many with off-road caravans and campers in tow.

The organisers have made display space affordable for voluntary groups such as boating, fishing, four-wheel-drive, RV and caravan clubs which cannot always afford to be at events of this size.

Many of them are expected to be on hand at Leisurefest to give free information and advice.

There’s also a chance to win a $14,000 off-road camper trailer in the popular Leisurefest “Follow the Yellow Brick Road” passport competition.

Best of all for many patrons, car parking at Sandown is plentiful and free.

The three partners in the event all have long experience in organising outstanding shows , with the Motor Show, Boat Shows and Caravan Shows attracting more than 350,000 visitors each year.

Melbourne Leisurefest runs from Thursday 2 October to Sunday 5 October at Sandown Racecourse, Springvale, from 10am to 5pm daily. Developed from the RV & Camping Leisurefest, it is a joint venture by the Caravan Trade & Industries Association of Victoria (CTIAV), Boating Industry Association (BIA) of Victoria and Victorian Automobile Chamber of Commerce (VACC),
