Big car brands make a splash at Leisurefest

Toyota, Ford, Jeep, Dodge, Nissan, Mazda and Holden will be just some of the big car brands at this year’s Melbourne Leisurefest being held from October 2 to 5 at Sandown Racecourse.

Car dealerships such as Berwick Nissan and the Garry & Warren Smith Group will have the latest 4x4 models on display, making their stands a must see for car enthusiasts.

Among the stars will be the new Nissan X-Trail diesel. The 2.0 litre, four-cylinder powerplant has been engineered to deliver smooth, responsive performance, and for the first time offers engine choice in the X-Trail range.

Starring on the Berwick Kia stand is the Kia Sorento range. Now upgraded with new diesel and petrol engines, the Kia Sorento is designed to appeal to buyers who want an SUV that delivers 4WD capability, strong towing capacity and a comprehensive specification with outstanding value.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee has been thoroughly refreshed, with improved performance, economy and refinement. Interior comforts have been considerably upgraded for the four-model range. For 4WD and camping enthusiasts the Jeep Grand Cherokee also has three new safety and security technologies for 2008: Hill Descent Control, Hill Start Assist and Trailer Sway Control.

Over on the Garry & Warren Smith stand will be the latest offerings from Mazda. The BT-50 is a welcome addition to the Show, giving a taste of the upgrades to the already popular BT-50 range. It comes in Single Cab, Freestyle Cab and Dual Cab bodies, and engine choices are 2.5-litre and 3.0-litre turbodiesels, both of them Euro IV compliant for minimal tailpipe emissions. Towing capacity is up to 3,000kg brake capacity, depending on the transmission.

Another highlight is Garry & Warren Smith Holden’s new Holden Colorado, promising high levels of performance and load carrying capability with car-like interior comfort. Turbo Diesel 4x4 variants offer a three tonne braked towing capability. Safety equipment includes driver and passenger airbags on all models, and three engines are available.

Melbourne Leisurefest is Australia’s largest outdoor leisure show. For the first time in the Show’s history, tickets are available for purchase online by visiting www.melbourneleisurefest.com.au

There’s also free parking and the chance to win a $14,055 off-road camper trailer from Outback Campers in the popular Leisurefest “Follow the Yellow Brick Road” passport competition.

Melbourne Leisurefest runs from Thursday 2 October to Sunday 5 October at Sandown Racecourse, Springvale, from 10am to 5pm daily. Developed from the RV & Camping Leisurefest, it is a joint venture by the Caravan Trade & Industries Association of Victoria (CTIAV), Boating Industry Association (BIA) of Victoria and Victorian Automobile Chamber of Commerce (VACC).
